My favorite ever Marvel character is Jessica Jones. If you haven't read Alias or The Pulse, GO READ IT NOW. Seriously, though, she's a hero without the tights, a mom, a wife, and a woman who's been through hell and still keeps going.
I decided to get experimental with the style. I stuck to oil pastels, which I don't have a lot of experience in, and shaded my way to the finished product. I know, it's not my usual comic-booky style, but I wanted something a bit more emotional.
This was done as a gift for her creator, Brian Michael Bendis.
I really should hunt down my real oil pastels, but this just sorta randomly came out. I was driving home from work, imagined it, and drew it. LOL!
My hair technique is pretty simple. Big blocks of the base color, then sorta cell-shade style the highlights and shadowing, pick a few darker colors and run thick strands over each section using near shades. I blur it out just a bit, and then go back over it with a very fine brush and use my smudge tool if I'm doing it in Photoshop, or the Just Add Water blender in Painter. Gotta play with the strength of it a bit, and it's time consuming, but I like how it comes out!
I'm really not sure what I can teach you there. I grew up drawing in ink. It wasn't until that someone convinced me I should pencil first to get proportion and all that before inking. Now I can't do an original without pencils to save my life. As for my technique, digitally all I do is add a layer and go to it. Also, in painter I don't ink with a pen tool, I use an HB pencil. =reiq has a lot of tutorials on inking and coloring that I've used to get to know the tablet better.
